Dennis Matthews Dennis Matthews 201188 Corporal, Tank Corp Died 11th August 1918 Aged 35 Son of James and Sarah Matthews, of Chesham Bois; husband of Mabel Annie Matthews, of "Laurel Bank", Long Park, Chesham Bois, Buckinghamshire, England. We're told that Dennis was injured by sniper fire whilst sitting on top of a Whippet Tank. The British forces - mainly Australian in this area, stopped the German advance at Amiens. This was the German's last desperate fling of the War. He died of wounds a few days later and is buried at Villers-Bretonneux, France. This cemetery is also the home of Australian National Memorial.
